One Room Challenge Week Four – Pulling Things Together With New Lighting

I think, after living with something for so long,  you kind of start to get used to it. We’ve had this giant pile of boxes piled up in our kitchen since week one and the tight, hazardous route between the kettle and the fridge was starting to become second nature. I was starting to get used to living in a construction zone….not cool.

But no longer my friends! We’ve started putting together our island and things are starting to take shape. But first – lighting!

First we hung the pendants for above our new island. If they look familiar, it’s because one of them we had bought for our original kitchen update back in 2015. Kichler was nice enough to send us a second one so our island could have a matching pair.

We wanted to make sure to hang our pendants first because our electrician had to change their placement slightly and this way we can make sure to position our island perfectly. The pendants are the 1 Light 18″ Pendant from the Hatteras Bay Collection.

And because we were on a roll this past weekend Chris and I also decided to install our new dining room light. Picking a fixture for above the dining table has always been a challenge for us, and now that we’ve opened up the space it was so important to find one that would compliment the kitchen pendants.

If you follow along with my Instagram stories you might remember we were trying to decide between two options, the Colorne 5 Light and the Moorgate 7 Light. We decided to go with…

The Moorgate!

This fixture is such a show stopper, and the bronze with brass touches is perfect for the space! Wait…is that a teaser that there will be some brass introduced in this kitchen? Maybe…

Okay, okay, I know, there’s a weird light bulb situation going on here. Don’t worry. I have some really pretty vintage style bulbs on order – right now we’re just being creative lol.

So – what else is new? Well, I’ve painted more walls (it’s taking forever) and last night we started assembling the new island cabinets and build the 2×4 base. Nothing is attached yet though because we’re still playing around with the placement. Had to try out the new stools though!

This week the plan is to get the island all attached and finally polish and install our repurposed slab of granite. Oh, and start painting all the island drawer fronts. Man, we’re getting so close to the end of the challenge and our to do list seems to be getting longer. Does that happen to anyone else or just me?

Thanks for following along with our progress! Don’t forget to visit the One Room Challenge website to check out all the other amazing transformations taking place!

  1. The new lighting fixtures look amazing! Congrats! Good luck with the painting. You are right, it can take a long time but it is worth it!

  2. I had to make two lists. An “I need to do this before week 6” and “I want to do this and might get to it but will probably do it later this spring or early summer” list. 🙂

  3. Looks so good! Honestly, I wouldn’t have even noticed that the bulbs were missing if you hadn’t pointed them out, lol. Love the fixtures though 🙂
